Ryan Harris

Safe Routes to School Coordinator
Santa Fe Public Schools

Ryan Harris, Safe Routes to School Coordinator for Santa Fe Public Schools, joined SFPS after over 10 years teaching youth bicycle safety and mechanics for the City of Albuquerque’s Parks and Recreation department. He brings a lifetime passion for outdoor recreation and active transportation.

His youth in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains laid the foundation for a deep love of nature and outdoor sport. His experiences leading Scouts in bikepacking, camping, canoeing, and cycling helped him realize how impactful it can be to provide recreational opportunities to youth. He moved to New Mexico in 2003 to attend the University of New Mexico, where his time attending the School of Architecture showed him how much of a role walking and cycling will play as we work to create a more sustainable society.

Ryan is a League Certified Bicycle Safety Instructor, and has taught thousands of youth and adults how to ride safely, maintain their bicycles, and design safe routes to get to their destinations. His goal in working with SFPS is to help foster a generation of responsible road users, whether they choose to walk, cycle, bus, or drive.
