School boards and principals are the gatekeepers to the school, and their investment and relationships with Safe Routes to School stakeholders are essential to the success of the walking and bicycling movement. Charged with advancing the academic achievement of students, schools boards and principals face a myriad of challenges. At the same time, school boards and principals can have a strong influence on how students travel to and from school.
