Over the past 40 years, rates of obesity have soared among children of all ages in the United States, and approximately 25 million children and adolescents—more than 33%—are now overweight or obese or at risk of becoming so. In 1969, approximately 50% of children walked or bicycled to school; today, fewer than 15% of schoolchildren walk or bicycle to school. As a result, kids today are less active, less independent, and less healthy, with 23% of children getting no free time physical activity at all.
Your contribution supports the mission of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership to advocate for safe walking and bicycling to and from schools, and in daily life, to improve the health and well-being of America’s children and to foster the creation of livable, sustainable communities. Whatever you can contribute - $5, $50 or $500 - provides vital generating operating funds to the National Partnership. These funds, in part, help staff our federal advocacy efforts in Washington DC – which is a critical component of our work. In addition, your generous donation is 100% tax-deductible.

Corporate matching gifts
Corporate matching gifts are a great way to increase the impact of your gift. By taking advantage of a company’s matching gift benefit, you may be able to double or even triple the amount of a contribution. Each company has its own guidelines for employees, spouses, retirees, and widows/widowers. Most corporate procedures are simple:
- Request a Matching Form from your company.
- Complete and submit the form to the Safe Routes to School National Partnership along with your gift.
- We will verify the completed form and return it to the company.
- The company issues a matching gift contribution to our fiscal host, the Bikes Belong Foundation.
