North Dakota SRTS Federal Funding
North Dakota’s SRTS funding from FY2005-2009* totals $4,990,000 and includes the following annual apportionments:

Application Guidelines
Round 4
NDDOT's Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program is currently accepting applications for projects that encourage and better enable children to walk and bike safely to school. North Dakota counties, cities, schools and non-profit groups have until December 16, 2011, to apply for SRTS funds. The application and guidelines are available at www.dot.nd.gov or by contacting Pam Wenger at dot@nd.gov or 701-328-4787. Applications can be submitted to the Local Government Division at NDDOT.
Round 3
NDDOT closed its third round of funding on December 17, 2010.
Round 2
North Dakota recently announced awards for the second round of funding for nine statewide projects. Projects in North Dakota communities that will receive funding include: Burlington, Cavalier, Dickinson, Grafton, Grand Forks, Hankinson, Hettinger, Larimore and Minot. Funded projects include new trails, school signs and signals, sidewalks, crosswalks and non-infrastructure educational activities. Construction will begin in the spring of 2009.
Round 1
North Dakota completed the first round of applications with awards announced in July 2007. Construction on this first round of projects began in the spring of 2008.
A third call for applications will begin about Labor Day 2008 and ends prior to Thanksgiving 2008.
State Advisory Committee
North Dakota has a SRTS Advisory Committee that reviews project applications and recommends projects to the NDDOT Director. It is a seven-member group consisting of three state agencies (ND Departments of Health, Public Instruction, and Transportation), two non-state government members (Cities over 5,000, Cities under 5,000), one member from the ND Association of School Administrators, and one member from the ND Association of Secondary School Principals.
State Outreach Programs
The North Dakota SRTS program provides assistance and training for applicants and funded projects.
Evaluation Methods
North Dakota requires project managers submit a progress report and plans to require data tracking over the program period for funded projects.
