Wisconsin is one of twenty jurisdictions participating in the SRTS National Partnership Network Project. This initiative creates state networks that bring together advocacy groups, government agencies, and other leaders.

* Funding for SRTS is being continued into FY2010 at FY2009 levels.
Application Guidelines
Wisconsin announced awards from its first call for applications in July 2007 and from its second call for applications in July 2008. The third call for applications closed on July 9 and project awards announcements are anticipated in Fall 2010. Check the WisDOT website for updates on future application materials and program schedule.
Though Wisconsin has one application for both infrastructure and non-infrastructure grants, there is a separate application for planning grants. For more information, please see the Wisconsin SRTS program.
State Advisory Committee
Wisconsin has a SRTS selection committee that reviews applications and makes funding recommendations to the WisDOT Secretary. The committee includes representatives from WisDOT, the Departments of Public Instruction and Health and Family Services, law enforcement, a health organization, a local SRTS program, Safe Kids, a walking advocacy group and a bicycle advocacy group.
State Outreach Programs
Free and low cost SRTS trainings have been offered throughout the state. In 2008 Safe Routes to School sessions were also included as part of the Wisconsin Bicycle and Pedestrian conference in mid-August. Additional trainings will take place in 2009. A quarterly newsletter, the Safe Routes Reporter, is available online or by signing up for the email listserv. Wisconsin has developed a SRTS Toolkit with supplemental CD. Broken down into downloadable sections, the Toolkit includes the materials necessary to help communities at any stage of the process plan a successful SRTS program.
Evaluation Methods
Grantees must submit baseline data and data after the project or activity is implemented. The required data is gathered using the National Center for SRTS student and parent surveys. Grantees are also encouraged to propose more in-depth evaluation as appropriate for their intended project or activity.
