Nevada SRTS Federal Funding
Nevada’s SRTS funding totals $5,583,989 and includes the following annual apportionments:

2005 Actual 2006 Actual 2007 Actual 2008 Actual 2009 Projected
$1,000,000 $990,000  $1,000,000 $1,152,500 $1,441,489

Application Guidelines
In its first round of applications, Nevada is in the process of review applications that were submitted by May 30, 2007. Non-infrastructure applications will hopefully be announced in the middle of July 2008.

Nevada has the one set of application guidelines for infrastructure and non-infrastructure grants. Following the federal guidelines, Nevada allocates 30 percent of funds towards non-infrastructure projects and 70 percent towards infrastructure.

Schools and communities are encouraged to develop SRTS Plans to assess local infrastructure and education needs. The application process helps guide them through key steps.

For more information, please see Nevada’s SRTS program.

State Advisory Committee
Nevada did not form a new State Advisory Committee for SRTS because the existing Bicycle Advisory Board had all the attributes of a SRTS committee. The members are appointed by the governor and meet every other month. It consists of fourteen members: seven state agencies and seven public members. For more information on committee members and their organizations, see
http://www.bicyclenevada.com/bd_member.html.

The committee ranks applications for funding and makes recommendations to the DOT Director on which programs should be awarded.

State Outreach Programs
The Nevada Department of Public Safety has a
Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Education Program. This program administers traffic and bicycle safety workshops and education programs for teachers, community volunteers, law enforcement officers, and recreation leaders.

Evaluation Methods
Nevada plans to require evaluation data and will let each applicant propose their preferred method of gathering information.

Legislation and Policies
The 2005 Legislature mandated a report (AB 231) from Nevada’s two most populous counties—Clark and Washoe—examining walking conditions within one mile of elementary schools. The counties submitted these reports to the Assembly Transportation Committee at the beginning of the 2007 session. No further action was taken.
