Salary Details: The starting annual salary for this position is $37,000-$55,000.

Duties & Responsibilities: Serve as the Georgia Safe Routes To School (SRTS) Coordinator for a new program created under the federal SAFETEA-LU legislation. Under limited supervision, the Safe Routes to School Coordinator will develop and manage a statewide Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program that increases levels of walking and bicycling to school among elementary and middle school students, and improves pedestrian and bicycle safety in the vicinity of schools. This job may require attending night and weekend meetings as needed.

Minimum Training & Experience: Technical Competency: Program management experience. Other Minimum Competencies: Oral Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Experience in training and workshop facilitation, or making presentations to a variety of groups. Excellent interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with all levels within the organization, such as, state agencies, school and local government officials, and the general public in a professional, cooperative manner. Writing: Professional written communications skills. Self management/Integrity/Honesty: Displays a high level of initiative and commitment toward work and a high standard of ethical conduct. Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications, and willingness and ability to learn new computer programs. Flexibility: Flexible schedule to be able to attend evening events/meetings and willingness to travel statewide (such as to present at School Board or PTA meetings) and out of state to conferences and/or trainings.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Technical Competencies: Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Education, Public Health, City/Regional Planning or related field. Experience in bicycle and pedestrian safety initiatives, education programs, and/or facility design. Experience managing federal-aid transportation projects or programs. Knowledge of public education system. Knowledge of the Plan Development Process and contract letting process. Other Preferred Competencies: Interpersonal Skills: Enthusiasm for working with children. NOTE: Qualifications based on new pilot format.
