Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Funds the Safe Routes to School State Network Implementation Project
The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) State Network Project is being generously funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through a three-year grant of more than $600,000 to the Safe Routes to School National Partnership through it’s host agency the Bikes Belong Foundation.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant has enabled the SRTS National Partnership to create the SRTS State Network Project in nine key states and the District of Columbia. A primary goal of the State Network Project is to reach children at the highest risk for obesity. The following ten locations were selected based on need and their capacity to support the program: California District of Columbia Georgia Illinois Kentucky Louisiana New York Oklahoma Texas Virginia
The SRTS State Network Project brings together professionals from many different areas, including health, education, youth advocacy, smart growth, and bicycle and pedestrian groups, to work with state Departments of Transportation to help ensure the best use of the authorized federal SRTS funds. The project also works to leverage additional resources for Safe Routes to School, create an institutional framework to generate long-term policy changes, and remove barriers to walking and bicycling to schools.
