State Advisory Committee
The first Idaho State SRTS Advisory Committee meeting was held in November 2006 and the Committee has met four times since then, including the National Center for SRTS workshop.

The committee includes thirteen members representing: Law Enforcement, Idaho Pediatric Association, Idaho Health and Welfare, Boise School District, Safe Kids, pedestrian advocate, Idaho Transportation Department bike/ped planner, LTACH(local highway assistance council engineer), PTA, former legislator, Idaho Planning Association, Idaho Smart Growth, plus an ex officio FHWA member, the SRTS DOT Coordinator and the Idaho Transportation Department State Operations and Highway Safety Engineer.

State Outreach Programs
The Idaho SRTS program plans to provide training for perspective applicants prior to the next round of funding. The one-day training is part of a pilot program being conducted by the National Center for SRTS and will be held in Boise. Contact the DOT Coordinator for details.

Evaluation Methods
Applicants who are awarded Idaho Department of Transportation project and program funding are required to submit baseline quarterly evaluation data. The required data is gathered using the National Center for Safe Routes to School Student Arrival and Departure Talley Sheet and Parent Survey.

Success Story
Mountain Rides (formerly known as Wood River Rideshare), has been involved with SRTS programs in Blaine County Schools for 3 years.

A recent success for Mountain Rides SRTS Program was Bike and Walk to School Day in 2007.  It was regarded as an overwhelming success in the Wood River Valley, with nearly 50% participation among elementary-aged children and some surprise participation from other age groups.

Mountain Rides has received $330,000 in federal funding for infrastructure and education in 4 different projects throughout Blaine County. This funding provides for major improvements through bicycle racks and pathways. Another one of their current grants is aimed at building affiliations between school wellness councils and the PTA and their SRTS program. Their SRTS program addresses the 5 E’s in many different ways.  One way is through constant communication with government officials, local schools and residents.  Additionally, they put out press releases and blogs on local online news providers, hold Bike and Walk to School Day with locals - giving out SRTS prizes to participants, work closely with local governments in planning new infrastructure and maintaining existing infrastructure and recruit parent volunteers to organize neighborhood bicycle and walking groups.

Outside of the federal funding, Mountain Rides organizes Smart Moves, a trip tracker.
