Jessica Meaney

Jessica Meaney, based in Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood, serves as the California advocacy organizer for the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. She is working on transportation policy priorities for California specifically regarding funding, equity, community based schools, data collection and evaluation. Also in her work, Jessica focuses on supporting a California state network of Safe Routes to School and active transportation practitioners, policy makers, advocates, leaders and community members by sharing best practices and resources and opportunities to learn from peers and other communities.

Jessica has her Master of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, and received her Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Prescott College in Arizona. Before joining the National Partnership in January 2010, Jessica previously worked at the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), and the California Community Foundation. Jessica has lived car free in the City of Los Angeles for almost to 15 years.

For Jessica, Safe Routes to School is a social movement. It’s something everyone can be a part of. It’s about supporting walkable and bike-able communities for everyone, regardless of age or ability. One of Jessica’s favorite things about Safe Routes to School, "is that you don’t have to be a student, a parent or a city employee to care about living in a neighborhood where families can live and have
their kids go to school safely - it’s something everyone can be a part of and support in their own way."
