Jessica Meaney bio
Jessica Meaney serves as the California Policy Manager for the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, working on statewide policy reform as well as funding policies and priorities for Southern California. She is also the California State Network Organizer.
Jessica was raised in a large family in Massachusetts, where many of her family still live. One of the main things Jessica admires about her parents is the generosity with their time, intellect, and beliefs in social responsibility. These qualities shaped the way Jessica viewed education opportunities and her role as a community member. Seeking cultural and urban adventures, she moved to Los Angeles soon after graduating from Prescott College in 1996, where she still currently lives. While in Los Angeles she went on to receive a Master’s of Sociology from California State University Los Angeles. The three schools she has attended (Audubon Expedition Institute, Prescott College and Cal State LA) provided her with a love of learning, a community-minded perspective and a desire for understanding the world in which we live.
Jessica has lived car free in Los Angeles for over 10 years, which has given her a rare insight into the city and deepened her commitment to planning for those who rely on transit. It has also convinced her that intelligent planning can even persuade people who can afford a car to go car free, ride a bike, and/or reduce trips taken in the car. Most recently, Jessica worked for more than three years for as a Regional Transportation Planner for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). She works to contribute to improving communities and urban environments, and to create perspectives rooted in community, public health, environmental conservation, sustainability and transportation. She views the Safe Routes to School National Partnership as an ideal place to work towards those goals.
